I am denied the S.O. Notification - WHY?

Here in Glen Woods we have a Level II Sex Offender living at the corner of Hoffman and Belvedere, but don't expect to get a notifiction if you do not have a child going to the Glen Hills Elementary School. He is a 1st Degree molester that plea bargained in 2005 to a lesser charge of 2nd degree and is NOT posted on the website. Why? Because he is prior to the 1/1/06 date when they have to be listed. I went down to the Police Station with my 3 year old requesting a copy of the form BUT, I was told because my child DOES NOT go to that school, I am unable to receive any notification. NOTE, if a Level II offender moves in to your neighborhood, the police will notify you if it is only a level III, but if you child goes to a private school, you will not receive a notice. Folks, its not their fault, rather the fault of the Parole Board or AG's Office? How about both!

Also note, my and your tax dollars pay for Level III S.O. and Level II notices, but we are not privy to Level II's unless the above situation exists. Approximately $9,000 was spent in Cranston on notification. This guy has been seen at the school and around the neighborhood, but under RI law (not the fault of the Cranston Police, rather the laws of Rhode Island) parents of children whom received this notice are warned not to copy the notice and give any information from it to anyone. So, if your relative lives nearby and/or takes care of your kids that do or don't go to the school, you are technically Not supposed to share any of this information. Hello, does this sound sane to you? Also, our Chief of Police in Cranston should be commended for opening the S.O. Registry to 24/7, something that is not a Rhode Island mandate.

There is no mandate on the distance these S.O.'s can live from a school/daycare unless it is a Level III (the worst) which under Megan's law they are bound to keep a distance. We need to set better standards.

S.O.'s can declare he/she wants to appeal the label given to them and they then go off the radar until their appeal is reheard - - OUTRAGE.

More facts to come about this injustice. We need to start demanding change in the AG's department. As of 1/1/06 we just started listing on familywatchdog.us - and we still do not list their work addresses? Why? Why are we one of the last states to join this public notification made easy online?

Remember the more our community is notified of the S.O.'s the more S.O.'s want to move - that's good news to hear don't you think!
